Hello Gary -- I agree with your recipe...mostly. The trouble is, there is an assumption that people are always self-oriented, and so all persons need to think of the other to a greater extent.
This assumption fails when talking about the category living on one far side of the Empathy Spectrum, where you have Cluster-B personalities at one polar extreme and persons with too much empathy at the opposite extreme. The persons with too much empathy and too little Self are sometimes called Codependents, although I dislike that often-misinterpreted term.
Therefore a "Codependent" would require more Self, rather than less. Usually life -- and others -- trample them.
Good story illustrating this: "The Less You Know the Sounder You Sleep" by Juliet Butler

Yes, good points... I have written a couple of articles on co-dependency literature https://garysharpe.substack.com/p/personal-boundaries-and-their-violations?utm_source=publication-search and https://garysharpe.substack.com/p/systemic-personal-boundary-violations?utm_source=publication-search
Thanks. I will read these.
Given the Obesity numbers sweeping the western world I would add :
Less eating.
More moving.
Love this.
Perfect! Paul Kingsnorth (Abbey of Misrule) talks about the quiet and taking “the peace of the heart.” It’s a great read!
