I spent a lot of time during lockdowns noticing the great outdoors, travelling in a motorhome with two faithful hounds, a renegade and an outcast from the 'stay at home' crowd. I still vividly recall standing, looking in awe at the sunlit barley field framed by a dark grey sky, marvelling at the contrast and thinking of the words of Don McClean's song 'Vincent'. It meant something at the time. It still does. Now, settled in a home in a wilder area, even the wind and rain are healers, and it all means something. Which is fortunate, because soon I am going to have to get soaked venturing out with those same two hounds!
What a vital image this conjours. [I had not noticed(!) the connection of my musings to lockdown, but it does speak to how bad for our health the lockdowns were, all the measures seem designed to lower immune function].
Nature Mother "Sophia" as the Gnostic 'Telestai' (those who are aimed by the knowledge of the myth)...said she is beauty and her consciousness is ours.
Coming home brother
When 'I am' means a burst cloud never to return
That which chases n seeks incessantly can sit
The eye sees
The ear hears
The skin feels
While suddenly
All of a sudden
As a volcano bursts forth all over this land, these clouds, this breath, those sounds,
Reading this reminded me of Iain McGilchrist's thoughts about attention.
"Attention may sound dull, but it is an essential aspect of consciousness. In fact, it governs what it is that we turn out to be conscious of, and therefore plays a part in the coming into being of whatever exists for us."
Es, I wanted to add the field agrees with McGilchrist! My training is Somatic Experiencing and we use attention to the felt sense and both inside and outside with the senses and see HOW THINGS CHANGE.
Then we can accompany the change and help a change back to what is pleasant and safe.
When we remember events, so with thoughts, it makes come back emotions, and emotions are a global package of felt sensations.
These are the 3 languages of the body, and we could put more attention on the sensations.
Start with pleasant feelings, it's nicer to notice joy!
Notice the feelings developing from remembering nice events, from scenaries to relationships.
When working on difficult unpleasant experiences, if we use the same, body sensations, we can make come back strong activations that have not become emotionally neutral enough, and we can lower the energy level by using imagination, for example to find which reactive and defensive movements we had to time or no use to complete, but are still recalled when we think about the event.
When we add this dimension, it changes the resulting emotions and also some of our automatic thoughts.
The gift of presence...I could feel that sun as I read this... Thanks Gary.🙏😌☀️

Yet, what a healing, reviving and pleasantly, sensational venturing I imagine it likely will be...😌🐶🐶
😀 How did you know you were in owe? How could you feel it with your body? 😉

Attention is the tool in all Somatic approaches.

Well, you have just open my curiosity to a whole new field of knowledge. Thanks.

Xisca, would you be willing to say more? That is a very interesting statement that you made.
I had not seen you asked for details, sorry!
I'm a huge aficionado of McGilchrist's work [I mention him a lot in my posts], so it is probably unconsciously heavily influenced.
A moment of much needed reverence this morning, thank you.
Glad it helped.
