I agree with a lot of what you say. HOWEVER . . . YOU SAY: The best way we can resist is to cultivate a deeper understanding of ourselves and the human condition. I agree that these are important things. However you omit was I experience as at least equally important: cultivating a deeper knowledge of what is going on through ongoing exploration. In fact, my model of self-development - full flourishing - differs from all those I am aware of in that it presents the capacity to perceive accurately, think logically and take action in the civic world as core aspects of fully flourishing.

Yes, I don't think we can understand the human condition without the context of the world in which we live. Are you familiar with Iain McGilchrist work. He talks a lot about these themes. There is a series of youtube videos where he talks about what he wrote in his new book... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN3Al3nwDE4

Thank you for the link. I don't know if I'll watch at this time - I am swamped with several self-chosen projects I'm passionate about. Where to put one's time? So this morning I was pulled to post on a book cover I created for a book I haven't written and (I believe) I will never write. But it mattered to me to post on it. Whoops, there goes over a hour, as I woke up knowing there was a word missing in the original title. Anyway, very good to know of this person, and I am storing the link with other videos to watch while cooking supper. (My favorite watch time.)

You have a great grasp on human nature and psychology studies. When people harbor hate, fear or some other negative emotions, they work to suppress the emotion, the emotion does not go away. This stresses the body, and hurts the immune system, and that's just the beginning. People slowly die inside, mentally, physically, and spiritually. (By spiritually I don't mean religion, which is a separate issue.)

Agreed, it is very important to feel our feelings, and not repress them, even if we don't act on them. The repression of anger is the basis for Dr Gabor Mate's model of chronic illness, who's work I reviewed in my latest substack post.
